A delivery is checked against the purchase order before it is signed for. The count is taken from what is on the pallet, not from the delivery note.

Where the count is short, the shortage is written on the delivery note before it is signed and the driver initials it. A shortage found after the driver has left is reported the same day but is not written on the note.

Damaged goods are refused at the dock and recorded as refused. Goods that are damaged inside the packaging and not found until later are accepted and reported separately.

Nothing is put away until the whole delivery has been checked. A pallet put away early cannot be counted again.

Question 1

A pallet arrives and the delivery note says 40 cases. Twenty-eight are on the pallet. According to the passage, the count recorded is
  1. A. 40, the figure on the delivery note
  2. B. whichever the driver confirms
  3. C. 40, with a note of the difference
  4. D. 28, the figure on the pallet
Show the answer

The answer is D. The passage takes the count from what is on the pallet and not from the delivery note.

  • A is wrong: The delivery note is what the count is checked against, not what it is taken from.
  • B is wrong: The driver initials a shortage; the driver does not decide the count.
  • C is wrong: Recording the wrong figure and adding a note still records the wrong figure.

Question 2

A shortage is found two hours after the driver has gone. According to the passage, it is
  1. A. written on the delivery note and reported
  2. B. written on the note when the driver next calls
  3. C. reported the same day, not on the note
  4. D. left until the supplier is invoiced
Show the answer

The answer is C. The passage reports a late-found shortage the same day and keeps it off the note, which the driver is no longer there to initial.

  • A is wrong: A note the driver cannot initial is not what the passage provides for.
  • B is wrong: The passage does not hold the entry over for a later visit.
  • D is wrong: Nothing in the passage waits for an invoice.

Question 3

A rule says: a pallet is shrink-wrapped where it holds more than 20 cases OR where any case is open. A pallet holds 14 cases and one of them is open. Applying the rule, the pallet
  1. A. is wrapped only if it is going out today
  2. B. is not wrapped, being under 20 cases
  3. C. is wrapped, because one of the cases is open
  4. D. is wrapped if the supervisor says so
Show the answer

The answer is C. The rule is an OR, so the open case satisfies it on its own whatever the count is.

  • A is wrong: Where the pallet is going is not part of the rule.
  • B is wrong: That reads the rule as requiring both limbs when either will do.
  • D is wrong: The rule decides it without anybody being asked.

Question 4

A rule says: an item is counted at the dock AND again at the bay before it is signed off. A delivery is counted at the dock and put away. Applying the rule, the delivery
  1. A. may not be signed off until it is counted at the bay
  2. B. may be signed off, the count having been taken
  3. C. may be signed off if the counts are expected to match
  4. D. may be signed off by a second worker
Show the answer

The answer is A. The rule joins the two counts with AND, and only one of them has been done.

  • B is wrong: One count of two is not what a rule joined by AND requires.
  • C is wrong: An expectation is not a count.
  • D is wrong: Who signs is not what the rule turns on.

Question 5

Three orders picked from aisle C last week came up one case short. All three were picked by different workers. All three items were stored in the same bay. Which conclusion do these facts best support?
  1. A. Something about that bay is at fault
  2. B. The workers are picking carelessly
  3. C. Aisle C should be recounted in full
  4. D. The orders were packed wrongly
Show the answer

The answer is A. Three different pickers rules out the person, and the one thing the three shortages share is the bay.

  • B is wrong: Three different people making the same error points away from the individuals.
  • C is wrong: That is a step worth taking and is not a conclusion the facts reach.
  • D is wrong: Nothing in the facts says anything about packing.

Question 6

A delivery is handled in this order: (1) check the seal, (2) count against the purchase order, (3) sign the note, (4) put away. A worker has counted the pallet. The next step is
  1. A. to put it away
  2. B. to sign the note
  3. C. to check the seal
  4. D. to count it again
Show the answer

The answer is B. The count is step 2, so step 3, signing the note, comes next.

  • A is wrong: Putting away is step 4 and one step stands before it.
  • C is wrong: The seal is step 1 and is behind.
  • D is wrong: Nothing in the order repeats the count.

Question 7

Using the same four steps, the seal is found broken. Under the order, the worker
  1. A. counts the pallet anyway
  2. B. signs the note with a comment
  3. C. stops at step 1 and reports it
  4. D. puts it away and reports it
Show the answer

The answer is C. Step 1 exists to establish whether the rest should happen, and it has failed.

  • A is wrong: Counting is step 2, which the failed first step comes before.
  • B is wrong: Signing is step 3 and two steps stand before it.
  • D is wrong: Putting away is the last step of the four.

Question 8

A pallet takes 8 cases to a layer and 5 layers. How many cases fit on it?
  1. A. 40
  2. B. 13
  3. C. 45
  4. D. 35
Show the answer

The answer is A. Eight to a layer over five layers is 8 times 5, which is 40.

  • B is wrong: That adds the two figures instead of multiplying them.
  • C is wrong: That is nine cases a layer rather than eight.
  • D is wrong: That is seven cases a layer rather than eight.

Question 9

A case weighs 14 pounds. A pallet holds 36 cases and the empty pallet weighs 45 pounds. The loaded pallet weighs
  1. A. 594 pounds
  2. B. 504 pounds
  3. C. 95 pounds
  4. D. 549 pounds
Show the answer

The answer is D. Thirty-six cases at 14 pounds is 504, and the pallet adds 45, which is 549.

  • A is wrong: That adds 90 for the pallet rather than 45.
  • B is wrong: 504 is the cases alone, without the pallet under them.
  • C is wrong: That adds the three figures instead of multiplying the first two.

Question 10

Which log entry could the next shift act on without asking anybody?
  1. A. Short on the delivery again today, see me
  2. B. Delivery 4412 short 2 cases of 220-A
  3. C. Delivery was short again
  4. D. There was a problem with this morning's delivery again
Show the answer

The answer is B. It names the delivery, the item, the shortfall and what has already been done.

  • A is wrong: See me needs the writer to still be there.
  • C is wrong: Again refers to something the reader may not know about.
  • D is wrong: A problem could be anything at all.
