- A. The quantity on the first line is wrong
- B. The total should be $54.00
- C. The unit price of the second line is wrong
- D. The total should be $96.00
Show the answer
The answer is D. Twelve at $4.50 is $54.00 and six at $7.00 is $42.00, which comes to $96.00 against the $95.00 written on the requisition.
- A is wrong: Twelve at $4.50 gives $54.00, which is consistent with the rest of that line.
- B is wrong: $54.00 is the first line on its own and leaves the second line out entirely.
- C is wrong: Six at $7.00 gives $42.00, which is consistent with the rest of the line.
Question 2 · Attention to Detail
- A. The date, which is not a Tuesday
- B. The absence of a signature
- C. The arrival time, which is too early
- D. The departure is before the arrival
Show the answer
The answer is D. Nothing in the entry establishes what day 14 April fell on, and a departure at 8:55 am after a 9:15 am arrival is an error visible from the entry alone.
- A is wrong: The entry gives no way to check the day against the date.
- B is wrong: No signature is mentioned as required, so its absence proves nothing.
- C is wrong: A quarter past nine is an ordinary time to arrive at an office.
Question 3 · Information Ordering
- A. log the payment
- B. sort it by department
- C. deliver it to the tray
- D. date-stamp the check as well
Show the answer
The answer is B. Sorting is step 2 and comes before logging, whatever the envelope contains.
- A is wrong: Logging is step 3 and one step is outstanding before it.
- C is wrong: Delivery is the last of the four steps.
- D is wrong: The order stamps the envelope once and says nothing about stamping contents.
Question 4 · Information Ordering
- A. Ramos, Ana, 4 March; Ramos, Ana, 19 March; Ramos, Bea, 2 January
- B. Ramos, Bea, 2 January; Ramos, Ana, 19 March; Ramos, Ana, 4 March
- C. Ramos, Ana, 19 March; Ramos, Ana, 4 March; Ramos, Bea, 2 January
- D. Ramos, Ana, 19 March; Ramos, Bea, 2 January; Ramos, Ana, 4 March
Show the answer
The answer is C. Ana comes before Bea, and within Ana the newest date comes first, which puts 19 March above 4 March.
- A is wrong: The two Ana files are in date order oldest first, and the rule says newest first.
- B is wrong: Bea is filed before Ana, and the rule sorts by first name after the last.
- D is wrong: The two Ana files are split by a Bea file, which the rule does not allow.
Question 5 · Number Facility
- A. 155
- B. 192
- C. 145
- D. 165
Show the answer
The answer is A. Eight cartons of 24 is 192 folders, and 192 minus 37 is 155.
- B is wrong: 192 is the number before any folders were issued.
- C is wrong: That subtracts 47 rather than 37.
- D is wrong: That subtracts 27 rather than 37.
Question 6 · Number Facility
- A. $848
- B. $75
- C. $924
- D. $915
Show the answer
The answer is D. 8.875% of $840 is $74.55, and $840 plus $74.55 is $914.55, which rounds to $915.
- A is wrong: That adds 8.875 dollars rather than 8.875 percent.
- B is wrong: That is the tax on its own, without the $840 it is charged on.
- C is wrong: That applies a rate of about 10% instead of 8.875%.
Question 7 · Time Management
- A. 12:00 pm
- B. 1:00 pm
- C. 12:30 pm
- D. 1:30 pm
Show the answer
The answer is C. The four tasks come to three and a half hours and the meeting adds another half hour, so five hours' work from 9:00 finishes at 12:30.
- A is wrong: That leaves the fixed meeting out of the day altogether.
- B is wrong: That adds an extra half hour that nothing in the day accounts for.
- D is wrong: That is an hour more than the tasks and the meeting come to.
Question 8 · Time Management
- A. A, then C, then B
- B. C, then B, then A
- C. C, then A, then B
- D. A, then B, then C
Show the answer
The answer is D. A from 9:00 to 11:00 and B from 11:00 to noon puts B before the collection, and C runs from 1:00 to 4:00 after lunch.
- A is wrong: A runs 9:00 to 11:00 and C then runs past lunch to 3:00, so B finishes at 4:00, long after the collection.
- B is wrong: C runs 9:00 to noon, so B cannot start until 1:00 and finishes at 2:00, half an hour after the collection.
- C is wrong: C runs 9:00 to noon and A runs 1:00 to 3:00, which leaves B finishing at 4:00, long after the collection.
